Reconstruction of a residential building in Novi (Modena) which was damaged by 2012's earthquakeA residential building in the town of Novi (Modena), which had been demolished following damages caused by the May 2012 earthquake, has been reconstructed. The project reproduces the concept of “aggregation to a relevant main housing body”, developing a new building structure centered on the main housing. The introduction of a “porta morta” (a typical part of rural houses that serves as a connection between the farmyard, the barn and the farmhouse) separates the part of the building dedicated to agricultural uses, differing from the main part of the house in the elevation configuration. The result is a building with a very simple morphological composition, clearly attributable to typical patterns of rural housing in the area.
