Rebuilding of a rural complex consisting of residential and production buildings Ingegneri Riuniti has completed the demanding rebuilding works on "Casa Malcantone", a rural complex with a significant historical value in the Modenese countryside, which was seriously damaged by the earthquake in 2012. Since the first moment, we discussed the possibility to recover the whole eighteenth-century complex, which consists of three buildings: the old country house; the farm with a shed, a hayloft and a warehouse; and another country building with its own farm. Therefore, we planned to accurately rebuild the complex according to the planimetry and the disposition of volumes of the original buildings; moreover, we recovered a section that had been destroyed by a fire in 1960 and had never been rebuilt. Also, we applied the same planning philosophy to the finishing materials used for the outside walls; obviously, we made use of new technologies, yet respecting the image that represents a "memory" of the complex of "Casa Malcantone". The project allowed us to "recreate" the original morphology of the complex, as well as to rebuild the boundary wall as it used to look originally. Therefore, a rebuilding intervention on the whole complex based on these conditions and characteristics offered again a consolidated image in the landscape of this geographic area, becoming part of the environment without altering what already existed and what people were used to see.
