Inauguration of the new skate park in Calderara di RenoThe skate park in Calderara di Reno – one of the main parts of the redevelopment of the industrial area in Bargellino – has been inaugurated on Saturday, September, 14th, in the presence of the Mayor of Calderara, Giampiero Falzone, and the Councillor for transport of Bologna, Irene Priolo. The entire design of the area started in 2016 and the works were planned and supervised by Ingegneri Riuniti. The plan includes the redevelopment of the parking areas, the cycle-pedestrian paths, the green system, the street furniture, the lighting system and the traffic signs, together with the core of the project: the "FAB LAB", intended to host different services for firms and for the neighbouring University of Bologna. The new skate park is inserted in an area of 2 thousand square metres, and it was designed not only to create a social aggregation space, in particular for those who practice this sport, but also to design a technologically advanced and unique structure in Italy, equipped with all the necessary parameters in order to be inserted among the structures used to host national and international skateboard competitions, waiting for this discipline to make its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The skate park consists of a 1080 square metre ‘park’ area and a 320 square metre ‘street’ area; the street area is equipped with parabolic structures and street furniture, such as railings and stairs, which skaters can use for their tricks and their high-adrenaline performances. The ‘bowl’ area is the heart of our intervention, as it has been carefully planned and developed with the support of the sports association Street sport Ass. ASD. Maria Linda Caffarri, Councillor for Sport of Calderara, declares: “More and more people are approaching skateboarding, which is why we have asked to create a structure that can meet every type of requirement: skateboarding represents an extraordinary aggregation tool for people of different ages, booth beginners and experts; last but not least, it places itself in a broader vision of redevelopment of a part of our territory, which in recent years has been witnessing the creation of works of great impact.
